Tamiko Rochelle Franklin, was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Antioch College, and a J.D. and Master of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law. She currently resides in Zagreb, Croatia and serves as both US intellectual property representative and outside counsel to law firms, corporate clientele in creative industries such as software, entertainment and new media.
Tamiko is acting CEO of the VIPO group, a hybrid for profit non-profit, cross border venture. In 2007, she founded the Virtual Intellectual Property Organization, Inc., (VIPO) to support the community of online gaming content creators and virtual IP rights owners by providing dispute resolution, copyright, trademark and publicity rights related services, to all categories of users in and concerned with virtual worlds.
In addition to her ongoing cross border practice, Franklin currently serves as Chair of the Digital Games and New Media, Policy Subcommittee of the Intellectual Property Section of the American Bar Association and as a member of the Policy Subcommittee of the Internet committee of the International Trademark Association.
She was referred to as ‘”a pioneer in virtual worlds and Second Life," … and is heavily involved in establishing IP rights in this domain in Europe.’ –-----
